Developing an Effective Writing Programme - 25/01/2022

I think I learned a lot in this workshop. Well maybe not learned yet but I have a bunch of things to use in my writing program (which is still in progress). It has definitely eased my mind around the substance of writing programs. I look forward to implementing some of the ideas, strategies and activities that were demonstrated throughout the workshop.

Te Whai Toi Tangata Tauranga Workshop 2 - 07/04/2022

After the first workshop I was most looking forward to catching up with the other teachers. However that was short lived as we were told that the workshop has been moved on to Zoom 😢 (at least the lunch will be a heck of a lot better!).  This workshop provided some great information about changes in the curriculum and what we should be preparing ourselves for to put us in a good position when changes are implemented. I also enjoyed some of the math activities that I could take straight back to my class and use. We also discussed and did activities that focused on local curriculum. This is very relevant to us at the moment as we work towards our 150 celebration later in the year.

I was really looking forward to this workshop. I heard nothing but good things about the lunch and if nothing else, the food will be worth it - the best part of the day. Unfortunately the lunch was miserable. A bland wrap, a dry muffin, and a floury apple 😔. What was even more unfortunate was the fact that the miserable lunch was still the best part of the day 😢. In terms of building positive relationships for a culture of learning I'm not sure I got anything for that. My one take away was that there are a lot of new teachers that feel like I do - overwhelmed. It was great to talk to them and share stories of our struggles (perceived and real), our successes (well, what we considered successful), and our ideas (that may or may not be relevant). Going forward it will be nice to stay in contact. I look forward to catching up with them again at the next workshop as we continue our teaching (and learning) journeys.

Starting Out Workshop No.2 (Primary) - 18/01/2022

Great day to meet others as anxious as myself about starting their journey into teaching. It was nice and relaxing. They gave different ideas about how to prepare for day one and week one, which were helpful to think about. I’m not going to lie, the best part was the lunch catered from Hazel Hayes - beautiful! I got to meet a bunch of new people and share some thoughts about what lay ahead.
